Art Quote of the Day

Welcome

As artists we see our work as an extension of ourselves and sometimes we can take ourselves a little too seriously so the title to my blog "It's Just a Painting". I have to remember that myself. I am a contemporary painter and I do make a living at painting so feel free to pass my information on to others. Below are some of my more recent works. Enjoy.

Evolution of a painting

image 1
Beginning stages of a large painting on paper (I did not have any panels ready).  With this medium there is so much pushing and pulling, reveling and covering up, I love it!
There are 4 images to be seen of this painting.  I think before I arrived at image 1 there were already 3-4 coats of paint and texture.

With out Eb

Eb 2000-2011
One of our poodles went to doggy heaven on Monday.  It was one of the hardest things I've ever done.  Having trouble painting right now.  But today is a new day. :(

Who are your influences?

The little painting close to being finished!
The other day I was reacquainted with the artist, Joan Mitchell.  http://search.yahoo.com/search?fr=mcafee&p=joan+mitchell+paintings

She is an artist whose work I can say has had lot of influence on my work over the years.  I always felt her use of color gave me an open door to try just about anything!  I was working on a little painting and wow! I could not believe how much it reminded me of her work.  I guess you never know what will happen.

This is an 8"x10"  I want to go bigger!

Oil and Cold Wax Techniques with Cindy Walton

We had the best class this weekend.  Oil and cold wax techniques!  I met 9 new women artists and introduced them to the world of cold wax.  (sounds a little funny)  We all had a super time and got very messy.
oil and cold wax being applied with brayer.

This was the first day and we were all getting cranked up.
I'll be teaching again in June can't wait! Plus an advanced will be in April.  Let me know if you are interested!!
